I miss social interactions, hanging out with my friends and nights out… Ever since you came, I have been staying at home every day – it’s the longest time I have ever stayed at home with my family. Well, this circuit breaker period gave me a lot of alone time to reflect on myself and allow me to enjoy a slower pace of life. I took this time to set new goals, establish a healthier lifestyle, reorganise my room and pick up a new skill – as simple as whipping up a simple meal for the family. And I binge-watched shows without having to worry about meeting deadlines.
Since the announcement of your arrival, I was worried about not being able to secure an internship during the summer break as I'd heard that companies were reducing headcount and rescinding contracts. I had difficulty applying, too, as firms were trying to cope with the situation by freezing new hiring. Thankfully, with the help from the school and friends, I was able to secure an internship.
During the 3-week break prior to the start of my internship, my friends and I interacted on many social platforms, playing games, watching shows and singing karaoke “together”. We also played Food Santa where friends would exchange food delivery with one another with a message of encouragement to surprise them. We also encouraged each other to stay fit by working out together online. It turned out to be really fun.
Although you have taken ‘freedom’ away from me, I am grateful for the quality time I've had with my family. I've been spending time with myself and catching up with old friends. You have given us clear skies, fresh air and brought wildlife back as seen in many countries. You also made me realise how short life is and that we should always respect nature.
I look forward to being able to travel overseas again, catch a movie in the cinema and have a drink at a pub. I want to give my friends a hug the next time I see them :)
