You came very unexpectedly, and made a huge impact in many ways all around the world.
Of course, one of it was the shutting down of almost every sports league all across the globe – even our little island was not spared.
For professional football players like myself, it means that we have not been able to do what we love the most. We have remained disciplined by training on our own at home, with guidance from our clubs, but I dearly miss being on the field with my teammates and going through both good and bad times together.
However, there has been a silver lining. I got to spend more time with my three daughters and that has been a joy for me. It is what I have appreciated most about working from home during this period. You have changed the way things work and made us realise that there is no such thing as a “normal life”, but that has also made us not take things for granted.
You also came at an unfortunate time as we will be celebrating Hari Raya soon – a time where we usually get together with friends and relatives. I am definitely going to miss the festive celebrations and visitations. Everything will be done virtually, which is something new and never been done before, but we will adapt.
You have indeed been a blessing and a curse, and I hope that everything will be over soon. I know things will definitely not go back to normal after the circuit breaker, but I am confident that we will be resilient and positive – and I look forward to being back on the pitch again.
